The Test of a Good Meal

To me the test of a movie is when you wake up the next morning still mulling it over in your head … thats a good movie. Matchpoint was the last movie in case. I find a meal to be a bit the same. If you wake up the next day still thinking about the beautiful flavours and combination of textures … thats a good meal.
Last night I had the fortune of being invited to onewaterfront, at the V&A’s Cape Grace Hotel. While I did have the crayfish medallion starter and the chocolate fondant dessert, it was the fillet main, that had me thinking this morning. A beautiful combination of perfectly done fillet, topped with a watercress puree. Alongside it, was a foie gras roulade, set on fondant potato and surrounded by a red wine reduction. The variety of flavours and textures on the plate was great. The fact that they were not all mushed together meant that you could sample the watercress puree on its own, with the fillet, the red wine reduction or as an enhancement to the fondant potato.
Unfortunately, they do not stock our wines, so we took along a bottle of our Cabernet 2002, which proved to be a perfect accompaniment.
