Picking your Wine at the Nose

The Nose Restaurant and Wine Bar in Cape Town’s fashionable Cape Quarter, seek to be “the best place to get to know the whole spectrum of South African wine”.

One way that they have set about achieving this is to offer two wine lists:

  1. Wines of The Month – unusual and interesting wines changing monthly
  2. The Essential Selection – a core, more permanent wine list

They then take the whole approach step further. On a Thursday evening, they offer patrons the opportunity to sample the Wine of The Month range at their table, while listening to the jazz sounds of Hayden Gardner and all for free. The idea is that by tasting the six or so Wines of The Month, their guests will be able to make an informed decision as to which wines they would most like to accompany their meal.

We went along to The Nose last Thursday, as the Withington Chardonnay 2006 is one of the Wines of The Month for October. I did end up picking the Withington to go with my smoked salmon on potato rosti, however it was great to taste an eclectic range of wines, each of which brought something different to the party.
